So many stupid people.

Hello. Lately been working on different things, as well as playing a new game.

Last saturday, grabbed Project Snowblind for $4 at circuit city. I remembered the game getting decent reviews, and I have to say its a fun game. Only problem is, its too short. I've pretty much ripped through it twice already. Its kinda Haloish, and supposedly puts a large emphasis onto online play (I don't have a network adapter, so I can't check that out). Even if it remained as short as it is, but offered some splitscreen mutliplayer action, it'd be better. Still, can't complain for $4.

As the subject says, I've been dealing with lots of stupid people lately. Things like people not knowing the difference between copyright and patent (they appear to think that patents, and trademarks are also copyrights). Or like being 100 years off in time with some of their statements, and it not being a slip of the tongue (like saying Nintendo started in 1989, despite the NES being released in the US in 1985, in an arguement about someone saying that Nintendo had started working on something in 1987). I just can't believe how stupid people can be and still live.

Arrr

Back again.

Things have been hectic here. This week have had family from out of town staying here, and all the craziness that provides. Its not been bad though

The sony laptop I have broke, again. Had issues with its hard drive, again. Since thats been wating hard drives, and the hinge aint cheap to fix, I'm probably not gonna fix it. If I do, I might mod things, strip it from its case, come up with a better cooling system, and put it in something else.

Other projects here, I'm trying to plot what I should do with a 4u rackmount case, and baby AT 486 I have. as it stands, the Baby AT doesnt match up right with the Fullsize AT case, so probably gonna pull out the drill and my tap set and go to town. Other ideas I've had is to make a hood scoop on there, with twin 120mm fans drawing in cool air from them. Not sure what else. I also am wanting to setup a headless server for auto backup of my main desktop machines. Could that be the purpose of the 486? Maybe, if I can get it to support large drives without an issue. If I decide to drop the 1500+ I have into the 4U instead, I am pretty sure its gonna be opticalless, and use that bay for a removable drive setup. I'll be tossing up sketches later of my mod plans. What ever I do, it'll be on the cheap, probably done with some of the scrap metal I have laying around. No biggie though, gives me a challenge.

Other news, picked up Gran Turismo 4 finally. Wasn't so hot on GT3, but lets see what 3 or 4 years developement has done on it. Can't believe at the memory card requirements, I'm used to seeing 80k, or upwards of 300k, required for a save game, but 2 megabytes? Damn. New memory card definitely for me then, when I can afford it.

Saw Pirates 2 on Monday, good movie, crappy ending. Its hard to say whether to recommend seeing it on the big screen, or to just wait and watch it right before Pirates 3 next year, since its more or less a year long intermission instead of a year between sequels. If you can, wait till after the credits for another funny scene.

Argh

Hey guys.

This past week has been a nightmare. First it was hotter than hell, reaching around 100 degrees every day. Wednesday, we had a massive storm. It was funny, the weather guy on TV was saying there was not and wouldn't be any storms for my county, despite having near tornado conditions in actuality. I look out the window, and its dark and the trees are swaying, shit blowing over, and he's telling me there's no storm. Try telling mother nature that, you hack. That knocked out power for most of the St Louis area, luckily I was only without power and phone for a few hours.

Thursday, returned to being hot, and claims of nasty ass storms. Karen ended up canceling and staying home out of fear of the storm (because it was supposed to be like the previous day, which had ripped roofs off buildings, flipped cars, etc). Did we get a storm? Hell fucking no. Cock sucking two bit hacks were wrong, again.

Friday morning, out of no where, nasty storm, hail and all sorts of stuff, again killed power and phone for a few hours. Since Karen was without power and neighborhood all tore up, and Eric and Katherine without power, they all came up and stayed the night. Was nice, got some premium snugglage.

Saturday afternoon, they all headed back to their homes, and we went to eat chinese for dinner, and decided to drop by Chuckaburger to visit because some people from the car club where there and its Glen and Charlie's birthday. Drop by there, and everyone is engrossed with this pale imitation of a dead, over rated, over hyped, druggie (aka bad Elvis impersonator), to even acknowledge us being there. Wait around for the guy to stop mangling songs and we head over ot Marybeth and Glen's house to visit and such. Well, when we got there, cops were waiting, and a bit pissy. One of the neighbors recently became an elvis impersonator, and decided to play with his band there and had set up early. Well, he'd pissed off the other neighbors by playing entirely too loud at like 11pm. So, we get there, the band starts up, and 20-30 minutes later, cops are back, threatening to arrest everyone if we don't leave, and they wait around till we all leave. It was fucking pathetic. Didnt get to visit with anyone, and the few people we did get to talk to, we could barely hear them over the blaring music despite being inside the house, and all the doors shut. Plus, we'd just seen one guy do Elvis, so do we want to sit and watch more of the same damn thing? Plus, generally, I hate impersonators, especially Elvis impersonators. Most aren't good, all do the same exact shit (white jumpsuit era Elvis), plus Elvis is over rated to begin with. Yes the man could sing, however he didn't play instruments, most of his songs he didn't write, and covered alot of other people's work (even songs that people attribute to Elvis often are covers, like Blue Suede Shoes), plus as time went on, he was high on drugs often and really started to seem like he didn't care (He often forgot words to his songs, etc while singing in concert). Also, when you have someone with that much noteriety, other acts of equal or sometimes better ability are overshadowed. Anyway, back to the story, saturday was a complete wash, didn't get to do anything I wanted to, and basically did nothing but waste time. I'd rather have been home, working on stuff here, than fucking around with all that bullshit.

Today, got up, cleaned around the yard, headed to costco, got a shed for Eric, and worked on stuff around his house. Wasn't too bad.

Tomorrow, Jeanne is wanting to get together with Marybeth and everyone else, but personally, I'm in kind of a mood to just kinda say "fuck 'em" after what happened.

Ads

Ok, on the main page, you might notice I've added at the very bottom a thing of Google's Adsense. Things are a bit tight around here, so I'm putting that in, to help take care of costs and such. Just so you guys know, it will be text only, no popups, no pop unders or overs, no flash, no images, no audible ads, no video ads, etc. Plain jane, unobtrusive text ads down at the bottom, thats it. I hate having ads, so I tried to have them as minimal as possible, so they won't be annoying or anything. For the time being, it will only be on the main page, to see how things go. If it is effective, the blog and gallery area will get it too, at the bottom like the main page has. If it is not a good deal, they will be removed, and all forgotten.

Ugh

Right now, trying to duplicate my old hard drive from the AMD64 onto a second drive. its been going at it for about 14 hours now, and roughly half done. This has been a giant pain in the ass since the drive wasnt always recognized at boot. I really hope I can get the data from it.

Been trying to get a hold of UMSL, but keep getting a busy signal at every number I call, every time I call. Hopefully I can get through soon.

For the most part, things are still kind of a clusterfuck here, with a giant ass hole in my front yard for the last week left when they were accessing the water main. Some assfucker was messing around in our back yard and unlatched the gate for the turkeys, latched the chain to the fence (something we never do) and left the gate wide open. Its also been hotter than all shit, being 100+ for pretty much every day since beginning of July, with the exceptions of the days it stormed. Also, in the next week will have to be at a lawyers to do something about the neighbor who's squatting on some property at the farm. Third time since the guy has moved in 8 years ago he's pulled up the survey stakes, pulled up our fence posts, and built a fence over on our property. This time though, he's not budging, claiming his property line is like 15 feet past where the county recorder, his deed, our deed, etc says it is.So, we have to serve him with a notice that he has to remove his fence and buildings that are on our property. If we just remove his fence and barns, he could sue us, even though its well onto our property and violating Missouri state law (which says that a permanent building cannot be closer than 10 feet from the edge of the property line).
